Frequently asked questions about Aftertype themes, Ghost, and your purchase.

Before you buy

Yes. Every released theme has a product page with a live demo, full screenshots, and public documentation you can review before purchasing.

Installation & setup

Download the ZIP from your purchase email, then upload it in Ghost Admin under Settings > Site > Design & branding. Preview before activating.

No. Your posts, pages, tags, and members are stored in Ghost, not in the theme. Only the design and layout change.

Licensing & billing

One license covers one Ghost site. If you run multiple publications, you need a license for each.

Every Aftertype purchase includes the theme package, a START-HERE guide, full documentation, 12 months of personal customer support, and a single-site license. Free updates for as long as the theme is actively maintained, including updates for new major Ghost releases.

Aftertype themes are digital products delivered instantly. Change-of-mind refunds are generally unavailable after delivery begins, but statutory rights and remedies for delivery or conformity issues remain unaffected.

Using the theme

Yes. Most presentation changes can be made through Ghost Admin settings and Code Injection. Direct code edits are allowed but may complicate updates.

Download the new ZIP from your customer access page and upload it in Ghost Admin exactly as downloaded, without renaming it. Ghost then updates your existing theme and keeps its settings; a renamed file installs a second theme with empty settings instead. The Updates section of your theme's documentation has the full steps. Free updates for as long as the theme is actively maintained, including updates for new major Ghost releases.

Personal email support is included for 12 months from the purchase date. Send your Ghost version, a screenshot, and a description of the issue; we aim to reply within two business days.

Northline

Magazines & long-form. Read the Northline guide

Northline requires Ghost 6.x and a custom-theme-enabled plan: Ghost(Pro) Publisher or higher, or a self-hosted installation. It does not work on Ghost(Pro) Starter.

Northline is designed for independent magazines and long-form editorial publications. If you publish short news or photo portfolios, it may not be the best fit.

Yes. Northline needs one addition to your routes: an /articles/ channel. Download your current routes.yaml from Settings > Advanced > Labs first and keep that copy as a backup. Then merge the Northline channel into it, keeping your existing routes, collections and taxonomies, and upload the merged file. The Routes and URLs section of the Northline documentation shows the exact lines.

Azimuth

Newsletters & creators. Read the Azimuth guide

Azimuth requires Ghost 6.0.0 or newer and works on Ghost(Pro) and self-hosted installations. It is tested on Ghost 6.62.0, and GScan, Ghost's own theme validator, reports no errors or warnings.

Yes. Azimuth styles Ghost's native signup, Portal, search, comments and members-only content boundary, and follows Ghost's own access rules for public, members-only and paid posts. Paid tiers need Stripe connected to your Ghost site.

Sounding

Podcasts & audio. Read the Sounding guide

No. Sounding plays the audio file in Ghost's own audio card, so it works whichever host serves your podcast feed: Transistor, Buzzsprout, Springcast or any other. Transistor is only needed for the private feed for paid members, through Ghost's official integration and a paid Transistor plan of your own.

The private feed is not part of Sounding itself: it is Transistor's service, reached through Ghost's official Transistor integration. You need a Transistor account on a paid plan that includes private podcasts; a Transistor subscription is not included in the price of Sounding. Supported setup: Ghost 6.0 or newer with the Transistor integration connected (Settings > Integrations), a private podcast at Transistor, and Private feed turned on in Sounding's theme settings. Tested with self-hosted Ghost 6.71 in October 2026. Ghost then lists each paid member's personal feed in their Ghost account, and Sounding adds the button that gets them there, after every episode and on the About and Subscribe pages. The theme never stores or shows feed addresses itself. Without Transistor everything else in Sounding works the same: episodes, player, archive, listen links and memberships. Leave Private feed off and a locked paid episode offers the full archive instead. Transistor and the integration are run by Transistor and Ghost; changes on their side are outside Aftertype's control, and we will update Sounding where a change affects the theme.
