Sounding Ghost theme

Sounding is a premium Ghost theme for podcasts and audio-first shows. Every episode opens with its player in a band of your show's colour and carries its number; listeners find Apple Podcasts, Spotify or their own private feed from every page, and Ghost's native memberships, comments and search are styled throughout. Available as a one-time purchase with a single-site license.

$109 USD$129

Launch price until 4 November, then $129.

Excluding VAT or sales tax, added at checkout based on your location.

Free updates for as long as Sounding is actively maintained, including updates for new major Ghost releases. Personal email support is included for 12 months from the purchase date. After that you keep the theme and its updates; only personal support ends.

The private feed for paid members needs Ghost's Transistor integration and a paid Transistor plan with private podcasts, which is not included. What it needs and what works without it.

Built into every install

Made for a show and its listeners

The episode band

The episode band

The audio card at the top of a post moves into a band of your show's colour, with number, title and duration. Play is the first thing a listener sees, on a phone too.

Numbered episodes and archive

Numbered episodes and archive

No. 147 in the band and in every list, counted per show; bonus episodes stay unnumbered. The archive reads well without an image per episode.

The private feed, one click away

The private feed, one click away

With Ghost's Transistor integration, paid members get a button to their private feed after each episode and on the About and Subscribe pages. Needs a paid Transistor plan with private podcasts, not included.

Listen links from your navigation

Listen links from your navigation

Add Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Overcast or your RSS feed to Ghost's secondary navigation; Sounding recognises the service and shows it under the player and in the footer.

Configuration

Resume and lockscreen controls

A listener who comes back gets a Resume at 2:14 button, and the lockscreen and media keys show the episode, its show and artwork.

Start here

Tag a few episodes #start-here and new listeners get them on the homepage, oldest first, in a band tinted with your accent.

Audio-first, video-capable

Start an episode with a YouTube or Vimeo embed or a video card and it takes the player's place in the band. No separate video player.

Light, dark and auto

Choose a colour scheme in Ghost Admin, with a separate dark-mode logo. The band keeps your colour readable in both.

Settings in Ghost Admin

Statement, Start here tag, episode numbers, episode images, private feed, colour scheme and footer note are theme settings. No code changes required.

Members & comments

Ghost's native signup, Portal, search, comments and members-only boundary, styled for episodes: a locked episode says what paying gets a listener.

Any podcast host

Plays your audio in Ghost's own audio card, so it works with Transistor, Buzzsprout, Springcast or any other host. No routes.yaml required.

English & Dutch labels

Interface labels ship in English and Dutch.

Documentation

Guided setup ships with every purchase. Read the docs.

Who Sounding is built for.

Independent podcasters

One to three hosts with a regular cadence, who want a show site rather than a host's default page.

The show comes first

Shows where the episode is the product. If your newsletter is the product and a podcast comes with it, Azimuth fits better.

Free plus paid

Shows that grow from free episodes into paid membership, with a private feed for paying listeners.

Any host

Transistor, Buzzsprout, Springcast or self-hosted audio. Transistor adds the private feed; it is never required.

Ghost-native

Anyone comfortable configuring Ghost Admin settings rather than editing templates.

Common questions

Questions, answered.

Which Ghost version does Sounding support?
Sounding requires Ghost 6.0.0 or newer and works on Ghost(Pro) and self-hosted installations. GScan, Ghost's own theme validator, reports no errors.
Do I need Transistor, or a particular podcast host?
No. Sounding plays the audio file in Ghost's own audio card, so it works whichever host serves your podcast feed: Transistor, Buzzsprout, Springcast or any other. Transistor is only needed for the private feed for paid members, through Ghost's official integration and a paid Transistor plan of your own.
What does the private feed need, and what works without it?
The private feed is not part of Sounding itself: it is Transistor's service, reached through Ghost's official Transistor integration. You need a Transistor account on a paid plan that includes private podcasts; a Transistor subscription is not included in the price of Sounding. Supported setup: Ghost 6.0 or newer with the Transistor integration connected (Settings > Integrations), a private podcast at Transistor, and Private feed turned on in Sounding's theme settings. Tested with self-hosted Ghost 6.71 in October 2026. Ghost then lists each paid member's personal feed in their Ghost account, and Sounding adds the button that gets them there, after every episode and on the About and Subscribe pages. The theme never stores or shows feed addresses itself. Without Transistor everything else in Sounding works the same: episodes, player, archive, listen links and memberships. Leave Private feed off and a locked paid episode offers the full archive instead. Transistor and the integration are run by Transistor and Ghost; changes on their side are outside Aftertype's control, and we will update Sounding where a change affects the theme.
Does audio keep playing when a listener opens another page?
No. A browser stops audio when a page changes, and keeping it going means taking over Ghost's navigation, which tends to break signup forms, comments and search. Sounding remembers where each listener stopped instead and offers to resume, and the lockscreen controls keep working while the page is open.
Does Sounding work with Ghost memberships and comments?
Yes. Sounding styles Ghost's native signup, Portal, search, comments and members-only boundary. A locked episode still shows its number, title and excerpt, with a way to sign up or upgrade where the player would be. Paid tiers need Stripe connected to your Ghost site.
How many sites can I use one license on?
One license covers one site. If you run several sites, you need a license for each; contact us and we will help you set that up.
What happens after my included support period ends?
Free updates for as long as Sounding is actively maintained, including updates for new major Ghost releases. Personal customer support is included for 12 months from the purchase date. After that you keep the theme and its updates; only personal support ends.
Sounding or Azimuth?
If the show is what you publish and the newsletter follows it, Sounding. If the newsletter is the product and a podcast comes with it, Azimuth. Not sure? Write to us before buying; we'd rather help you choose than have you buy the wrong theme.
